If you are going for a more contemporary look, opt for the painted finish. It will still maintain the sharp, squared-off and recessed edges that define the essential Shaker style, without being overstated. Combine it with a high quality stone worktop and contemporary handles (polished chrome or brushed nickel) and the result will be a high speck kitchen with a more urban look. Combine it with tiles, a freestanding cooker, wood finishes and traditional handles and you will create a traditional look.
